Biotech Startup Series @ CUBEinc Incubator

Biotech startups are pretty high maintenance.  To achieve the common 10X + plus multiples, most new drugs take over 12-15 YRS and cost between $2-4 billion (YES, billion with a B) to bring to market.  Medical devices come in at a slightly lower 🏷 $75-95 million and an average of 3-7 YRS. Digital health 👩🏽‍⚕️ remains the wild west 👢 with lower cost (avg. $13.8 M) of commercialization and regulatory hurdles 🚧 but with unproven returns despite impressive growth. For more fun facts on dev cycles, runways, and our kind of startups 🚀stay tuned for our infographic in the CBG journal.

Finding the right space can be a major hurdle many biotech companies face.  The demands for CGMP and CLIA-certified wet lab space and expensive specialized equipment can be rate-limiting for startups. Come find out more about one of the top R&D incubators CUBEinc and hear from rockstar founders + innovators who currently call the space home. It's FREE, so why not come out?

ProfDEV Series: Impactful Networking with CBS

Stop us if you've heard these before:

  • 85% or more of all jobs come from your network (LinkedIn)
  • >80% of all STEM graduates work outside academia (Nature)
  • Networking is about doing your HW + having a conversation (Inc)

In this day and age, it's more about who you know than what you know and those looking to climb the corporate ladder are discovering that traditional hierarchy to resemble more of a corporate network (FastCo).  It's critical to develop impactful and genuine networking skills.

Discovering Cures 2017

Our industry partners rank legislative and regulatory knowledge as one of the most commonly overlooked aspects of our biotech training. Do you have an interest in learning about the cutting edge of biologics and biosimilar alternatives to small molecule drugs? Are intrigued by the legislative process driving pharmaceutical and biotechnology innovation?

As costs climb and blockbuster drugs come off patent, the pharmaceutical industry has become a bit of a lightning rod for controversy.

We invite you to join us with our partners at SCBIO for Discovering Cures Day where experts from Novartis and Amgen will be on hand to discuss opportunities for cost control through production generic biosimilars.

Find out more about biosimilars and the blockbuster drugs that might be produced as generics as their patents expire: https://www.thebalance.com/top-biologic-drugs-2663233

IP Law in Biotech Research

IP Law in Biotech Research

Carolina Biotech Group and the USC Intellectual Property Law Society are teaming up to talk about IP as it relates to biotech, startup companies, and academic research. The format of the event will be engaging and open for questions and discussion:

Any CBG member that chooses to participate will give a quick (2-3 min) overview of a project that he or she is working on or even an idea that they would like to pursue one day. Then, the floor will open for IP Law Society members (i.e., law students) to brainstorm potential IP concerns for that particular "pitch" (e.g., patents, trademarks, trade secrets, etc.).

The purpose of the event is to be educational and to introduce members of both organizations to real world examples of intellectual property in biomedical research. We hope that CBG members will leave the event with a better understanding of how intellectual property can fit in to their current research and future careers, and we hope that IP Law Society members will get a chance to apply their knowledge to real world situations.

Please note: IP Law Society members are law students, and are not licensed to give legal advice. Any and all discussion at this meeting is for educational purposes only and should not be considered legal advice.
